'Hearts of Oak'
Royal Navy Field Gun Run

New from the Studios of raybrowndesign.com.

August 2nd 1999 witnessed the very last Royal Navy Field Gun Competition held at Earls Court, London ending a proud tradition spanning 118 years.
In commemoration of this historic race enacted since 1907, the Studios of Ray Brown Design are proud to present this Limited Edition piece entitled 'Hearts of Oak' in reference to the theme music played during the march into the arena of the competing teams. We offer this piece in memory of one of Britainıs greatest traditions and spectacles, whose origins hark back to the relief of Ladysmith 100 years ago during the Boer War.
With this sculpture we have tried to capture the pride and passion of the men who are driven by the pursuit of excellence in this fiercely contested event between three teams represented by the Naval commands of Portsmouth, Devonport and the Fleet Air Arm. The Field Gun display has its roots not in mere military pomp, but in a battle that changed the course of the British Empire and produced a victory that has continued to echo proudly through an entire century.

This is a Limited Edition of only 3,000 sets world-wide, 1,000 offered painted to museum standard, 1,000 produced in cold cure bronze and 1,000 white resin self-assembly kits. Once fully subscribed all moulds and master patterns will be destroyed.
Each sculpture is issued with its own unique number, a parchment scroll certificate of authenticity signed by the sculptor containing biographical details, and an illustrated history of the event.
